I know it seems like it's been forever since I've posted. Life over here is so busy! My schedule has me in class ALL the time for about two weeks, and then I have two weeks off -- which is when it is easier for me to find time to write. However, I'm usually trying to fit in some adventures when I don't have school. It's a tough act to balance!
I promise I will catch up and back track some blog posts by dating them earlier than the time I actually wrote them... which is sort of cheating, but it's my blog so my rules. ;-)
I had two very busy weeks of class in November that were bookended by school projects that keep me equally as busy as when I am in class, plus a number of special occasions and holidays to celebrate. I also started a temporary job for when I have time off over the holidays, and have gone on my first European vacation of 2015: Venice, Italy!
Here is an update on my MATYA course so you know what I've been up to for the last month.
The project that I have finished, as in I handed it in yesterday, was my script. Yes, I'm officially a scriptwriter thanks to this MATYA course, and I don't just mean taking "The Wizard of Oz" and arranging it so everyone at Broadway Bootcamp has a line...
I've actually created my own story and filled it with my own characters, thoughts, and ideas. It is 100% in the opposite direction of all the projects I thought I would work on throughout this Masters, but I really enjoyed creating it and working on it, despite the limitations. I could only hand in 3,500 words / 20 pages to be graded, so my original plan was to write a story that was only that length. It turned out to be harder than I thought it was, mainly because once I start writing, it is hard for me to stop.
I wonder if you had figured that out already...? ;-)
Anyway, I ended up submitting a script that was actually a couple hundred... thousand... words over the 'maximum' but it was only 16 pages so I figured it'd be okay.
Due to the limitations, there are a lot of parts of my script that I couldn't expand on that I would like to. I am eagerly waiting for the right time to continue working on it, but I have a research paper that I've done very little research for to work on. It's not due until mid-January, but who wants to have homework over the holidays? Not this girl.
Also, tomorrow I have to make a puppet for my class on Tuesday! Yes, another one! My final one is due in mid-January as well, so this is another practice one that will hopefully be developed more for my final assessment.
Lastly, I've been trying my best to see at least one show a week so that I can continue to gain ideas and inspiration for future productions that I create or work on. I haven't actually written about them yet, but between October 30th and December 5th I have seen "Wicked" twice in London, "The Depraved Appetite of Tarrare the Freak" in London, "Mary Poppins" at the Bristol Hippodrome, "Our Town" at the egg, "Venezia" in Venice, Italy, and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (tonight) at the Bristol Hippodrome, starring Warwick Davis from Harry Potter! I've been loving all of them, and am especially excited to see so many Pantomimes (a British Christmas tradition) over the next few weeks.
With everything that I am experiencing, I am truly learning 10x more! I am so pumped to come home for a few weeks in March so that I can share all that I am learning with you. After I finish classes in December, I'll be organizing a few workshops I'll be teaching in Michigan in the Spring, so stay tuned!
Happy December, love to you all!
