Welcome!I started these blogs for my experience living and studying in England because, well, I don’t want to forget it! I like to write, and hopefully this will prevent me from sending novels to various inboxes every month like years prior. :-) I can't promise I'll keep up with it as consistently as a true blogger should, but I'll do my best. Knowing I have an audience following me back at home will keep me motivated to write. Please comment & say hello, let me know what you like or if you have any suggestions for what I should do while I am here. I hope my blog inspires you in some way; whether it's to try something new, take a road trip with no destination in mind, or going out to see a theatre production. Live your life to the fullest, take chances, go on adventures, & have fun! |
The Story Behind "Jacq-Of-All-Trades" & "Stars & Stripes Living in Blighty"
Every blog has a title, and as you could imagine, I had a difficult time falling in love with any particular title to cover everything I would be learning, seeing, and doing while I am abroad. After a few days of deliberation, the best idea I could come up with was "Jacq-of-all-Trades," because I'll be doing an assortment of different trades throughout the course of the year. I just wasn't sure how to make it fit as a blog title. I needed a sub-heading.
I asked Dayne his advice, and he thought it was a good start. He repeated it out loud, "Jack of all trades, master of none."
"What?" I asked. I never knew that was the entire phrase, I've only ever heard the first part. He continued to explain to me,
"Well, you're not a master of none, you'll be a Master of Theatre for Young Audiences."
At that point, I knew I had to use it, and "Jacq-of-all-Trades" was born.
I also should mention how "Stars and Stripes Living in Blighty" was added to the mix. I asked my host-mom, Nina, for advice on what I should call the blog and which pictures I should use at the top of each page. After a few dozen hours of searching and names being spoken out-loud, as well as a lesson for me about the phrase "Blighty" and "Union Jack" vs. "Union Flag," it was settled. We found an image that was Nina's idea of the two flags being merged together and it became the top of my Masters of Living Abroad page.
Now, I don't know whether or not I'll be a "Master" of Living Abroad, or any other trade I pick up for that matter. I just hope to do my best to chronicle those experiences over the next year for my own memory and hopefully for your entertainment.
